1. Google’s Original Name
Google was originally named as Backrub by the cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin
Yes, when Larry Page and Sergey Brin begun work on their search engine, it wasn’t originally called Google. They went with the rather obscure Backrub which was a reference to the underlying algorithm which counts backlinks as affirmative votes. Well for understanding if websites have links to your webpage, it can be termed as a backlink.
A year into development, BackRub turned into “the Google Search Engine.
Google has a index with more than 3 billion websites. When this index would be printed, you’d get a 130 miles high stack of paper. Google searches through all these websites in less than half a second.
2. Google Rents Goats
Google rents goats from California grazing to mow their lawns.
As stated by them they find goats much adorable while mowing lawns than the machines.
3. Google Maps, Google Mars and Google Sky Maps
Go to Google Maps. Click on the satellite view and zoom out as much as possible. You can see an amazing view of earth with real time shadows.

Google is a misspelling of the word ‘Googol’ which is a basically a mathematical big number, 1 with 100 zeros following it. Moreover google has registered all the misspellings of it is domain redirecting to the same page, like googel.com instead of google.com will redirect to the same search engine
5. The First Google Doodle
Google’s doodles are loved by millions, it’s just a change in graphics of Google logo to depict a festival or an important event.
But do you know, the first google doodle was designed by the company to depict that they are out of office for the weekend to enjoy the Burning Man festival in Nevada.
The doodle included a man’s caricature rejoicing the burning man’s festival.
6. Google’s Impact on Language
Google was introduced as a verb to the lexicons in Oxford dictionary way back in 2006.
A Google staffer is commonly referred to as a “Googler,” while a new team member who joins in Google is termed as “Noogler.” who used to wear colorful hats then. Now nooglers are offered a smiley balloon 😀
The sentence, “I will be googling the details”, holds absolutely valid in terms of oxford dictionary.
7. Google terms itself as a “Dog Company”
Google proudly says it’s a dog company as it is super friendly to dogs. If you are working at google, your dogs can also enjoy roaming in the google campus.
Google campus welcomes the canine friends and takes care of them too.
But according to google’s DOG POLICY hostile and aggressive dogs need to stay at home. Due to large number of dogs, cats are not allowed to the company. Well don’t forget it’s a DOG company not a cat company.
8. Google’s Death Policy
If a Google employee passes away, the surviving partner will receive 50% of employee’s salary per year and that too, throughout the life span. So if you are into Google workforce, your company will take charge of your family after your death.
9. Google wanted to sell itself to Yahoo
Yes you heard it right, Google wanted in 1997 to sell their search engine system to Yahoo for $ 2 million and yahoo rejected the offer. Yahoo reconsidered the offer in a few years when google didn’t accept.
Now google is worth $300 billion. Yahoo would be regretting it’s decision.
10. Google’s Acquisition
